The sculpture "Luz y Sol" (Light and Sun), designed by FERRER ARCHITECTS, is located in Careaga Square. The idea arises from the abstraction of two easily identifiable concepts in the city of Almeria: the Sun and the Light.
The concept is brought to life the geometric shape of the sphere, as a metaphor of the sun. As such, the sphere appears as a luminous object that reflects sunlight during the day and at night it radiates light from within.
The sculpture was made from 8 mm. plate stainless steel, a material that generates brilliant shine and of great durability. On the surface of the sphere the words Light and Sun have been embossed in 5 languages: English, Spanish, Italian, French and German, the five most spoken languages in the European Union. Housed inside, there is a lighting lamp consisting of three low-power LED arms that create halos of light passing through the letters that make up the embossed surface of the sphere. In short, a sculpture that conveys the most representative values of Almeria and, given its location in the historic city center, contributes to its revitalization by providing another truly unique tourist attraction because of its singularity and design.
